Use Cases

Why would I deploy the Open Timecard

A Standalone Grandmaster

The Open Timecard module can function as a closed system or be integrated with a host system when coupled with any network adapter, including up to 400Gbps adapters, to create a high-performance PTP grandmaster clock solution.

High Accuracy Time Distribution

Open Timecard has SyncE and PTP built-in for precise timing signal distribution, simplifying network topologies and timing deployments without complex systems.

Flexibility

The Open Timecard is designed with various industries in mind, from finance to broadcast, government, and defense to telecom. It is modular, allowing you to choose the options and features that best suit your needs.

PPS, PTP, SyncE, PTM built in

Anti-Jam & Anti-Spoof technology

Powered by intelligent software

It must be a PCIe card

Useful on both a time server and a time client in financial services / mobile operator/broadcast type environments.

It must sync the system clock of a Linux server to nanosecond accuracy with PTM.

It must provide the same practical sync accuracy as White Rabbit does, but without the complexity and cost

It must have “extreme flexibility”

Multiple Programmable frequency inputs and outputs.

It must be FPGA-free. FPGAs are expensive, difficult to maintain and impossible to build an open-source community around.

Modular by design

Different GNSS modules:

  • U-blox flagship LEA-F9T (great performance, great value)

  • Septentrio mosaic-T (feature-rich, jamming and spoofing resiliency leader)

Different oscillators, different vendors

From OCXO to high-end atomic rubidium and low-swap caesium

It must use a single-board-computer that is deployed in millions of units for the best reliability

It must run the same Timebeat software that works so well everywhere already.

Why we made it

We believe in modular by design, we believe in open, we believe in flexible.

That’s why we set ourselves these design goals
